American sculptor Alexander Calder (1898 - 1976) entitled his work Janey Waney in tribute to Jane Holzer, an American top model of the sixties who is now a contemporary art collector. Andy Warhol’s star actress had seen a model of the sculpture in the artist’s studio and suggested that he make a large-scale version. This work is in fact a combination of the artist’s renowned Stabiles and Mobiles. A Mobile that rotates 360 degrees crowns the summit of Janey Waney. The piece stands out amid the artist’s production, since it is among his first red Stabiles, which he developed in the 1970s.
